Santa Clara Diving Group Descriptions


Junior Olympic (JO) Team

This group is the top tier of our “Junior Olympic” travel team. The athletes in this group train 5 days per week and attend Local, Regional, Zone, National, and, if qualified, International competitions. These athletes are the “ambassadors” of our team. This group is made up of proven competitors and potential National qualifiers.  This group has a 1 year financial and competition commitment, but will be billed monthly. Please consult the SCD Fee Schedule for specific prices.  This group is by coach’s invitation only.

Gold (Pre-Competitive) Class

This group is the transition group between Lessons (recreational diving), and the “Junior Olympic” travel team. This group will train 3 days per week and be required to attend Local, and, if qualified, Regional competitions. This group allows divers to work towards achieving the dives need to compete at the Junior Olympic level.  Divers must be capable of swimming one length of the diving well (25 yards) unassisted.  This group will be billed monthly. Lessons (Bronze & Silver) Classes

These groups are, primarily, recreational diving classes. The athletes in these classes will be taught safe, fun, and very basic diving movements in 22-23 classes of 1 hour, over a period of approximately 3 months. These groups are put together in “Quarterly Sessions”. The athletes will have the opportunity to compete in local meets for which The Santa Clara Diving Club is participating. Currently, there are 2 classes available for this level, however; with more applicants, there will be more classes opening. Divers must be capable of swimming one length of the diving well (25 yards) unassisted. Please consult the SCD Fee Schedule for information on the cost of this program.

 

Learn-To-Dive Class

This class is our basic introduction to diving class for children ages 7 and under who can successfully swim one length of the diving pool unassisted.  This class teaches the basic movements of diving through instruction on the ground and in the water.  Divers in this class will be hand-spotted by the instructor to ensure maximal safety on the diving boards and in the water.  This class meets one day per week for one hour at a time.  This class operates as part of our lessons program and runs on the quarterly session system.  Divers will have an evaluation prior to the end of the quarter to determine their placement into our upper-level lessons program.  Divers in this class must be capable of swimming 1/2 the length of the diving well (12 yards) unassisted.

High School Group

This class is designed primarily for athletes seeking to improve their skills so they can more skillfully represent their individual high school programs. These athletes will have the opportunity to represent the at any Local Northern California Diving Association competitions hosted by Santa Clara Diving. Divers must be capable of swimming one length of the diving well (25 yards) unassisted. The group will be billed monthly.
