The Santa Clara Diving team is traveling to Beaverton, OR this weekend on March 2-4 to try and earn a qualifying spot for USA Diving’s West National Championships. Santa Clara Diving will have 20 divers from both the JO and White travel team groups competing over the course of the weekend. The top six finishers in each event will earn a spot to compete at West National Championships in April at Oklahoma City, OK.
The competition starts on Friday, March 2 with the platform event. Although it is a non-qualifying event for West Nationals, both Shaifali Goyal and Kathleen Navas will be competing to gain the experience for the summer season. The main springboard competitions begin on Saturday, March 3 with the younger age groups. Remi Edvalson and Cole Sullivan will be representing SCD for the first time in the 11 and under age group. Joining them in their first regional as well is Cole Vertin and Sunny Prasad in the 12-13 boys age group. Veterans Katie Truong and Sabrina Chan will compete with Kathleen Navas in the 12-13 age group on the girl’s side.
The 14-15 age group will see some new faces this year for Santa Clara Diving. Stephanie Kerkeles will be competing in this age group for the first time in addition to SCD newcomer Qian Yi Pang. They will both follow the lead of returning age group diver Shaifali Goyal. Lukas Andreasen will be joined by one of SCD newest team members Will Schwarzer for the boys’ competition.
Santa Clara Diving will have eight 16-18 girls competing over the weekend in 1-meter and 3-meter springboard competitions.
Giuliana Davis and Katie Silbermann will be making their regional debut as they compete in the 1-meter competition. Lauren Hall and Alexa Cacao are hoping to continue their diving success into the 16-18 age group as they have moved up this year. Mariah Renteria will join Gabby Ramil in their second year in this age group hoping to improve on last year’s performance. Seniors Monika Terry and Tripti Singhal are beginning their last year on the junior circuit before heading off to college next year.
